Over the summers I work for my families garbage disposal business. We pick up all of the garbage for Watkins Glen International throughout the summer for events like NASCAR, Phish, and this year the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. This job requires strength because we dump 55 gallon drums full of garbage all day. This job also calls for good conversation skills. This is because the trucks need to communicate with each other to get the job done as efficiently as possible. Not only do we need to communicate with the other trucks, but the officials at the track as well. Patience is also needed in order to deal with the many drunk people encountered when working big events like NASCAR.
Two years ago, my family and I went on a cross country road trip to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. Along the way we stopped at many different cities, taking our time and enjoying the different landscapes around us. The trip, which lasted two weeks, really opened up the country for me. Going on this trip not only allowed me to see the rest of the nation, and meet new people, but it allowed me to spend time with my family.
During the winter of my senior year, my friend convinced me to join the swim team, and I’m glad he did. That year Watkins hired one of the most successful coaches in New York. This is great, however with success, comes hard work and dedication. The season was the most physically and mentally strenuous three months I’ve ever experienced, leaving me exhausted every night. Consisting of three hour practices, difficult workouts, and lots of swimming. But all of that hard work payed off, resulting in the most podium finishes that Watkins has had in years. It was difficult to get through, but who doesn’t like a challenge?
