Hello students, parents and guardians!
We are starting the technology education class here at Cohen Middle School. Your child will be learning about multiple areas of technology and how they can utilize these skills in employment and/or when they become future homeowners. Simple things such as using the right type and size screwdriver, holding a hammer correctly, and using other tools and machines safely are all life-long skills that they can carry with them. Safety is my number one priority while in the workshop and I take it very seriously. If a student is unsafe, he/she may be removed from the shop for a period of time.
In addition to the woodworking unit, students will be introduced to hydroponics, which is growing plants/vegetables without the use of soil. Students will also be learning about flight and rocketry and will be creating a model rocket all from scratch and will launch them outside on a clear, windless day. We will also be creating one of the projects in AutoDesk Inventor, which is a professional 3D modeling software. If time permits, students may also do a small metal project that will incorporate the use of the metal shear, brake, and soldering with a propane torch.
