Welcome to the Middle School Library
The mission of the Spencer-Van Etten library media program is to ensure that all students are college and career ready at graduation. Throughout a student’s career, he or she will learn to ethically and creatively use information, evaluate and communicate information in all formats, think critically, and always ask questions while pursuing excellence.

Visiting the Library
- Students may visit the library at lunch, or during free periods if they have a pass.
Book sign-out information
- students are allowed to have 2 books and 1 magazine out of the library at a time
- books are signed out for 2 weeks, and may be renewed before the due date
- the due date is stamped on a slip in the back of the book
- reference books are to be used only in the library
- a book that is lost or irreparably damaged must be paid for; the amount due is based on replacement costs
- students with overdue books will have to return the books before taking out new ones
Students will be able to:
- Read for pleasure
- Gather, organize, analyze, and communicate relevant information during the research process
- Reflect and synthesize knowledge
- Create products with the use of technology
- Inquire and wonder at every stage throughout their school career
- Understand how to be a good digital citizen
i.e. Copyright, citing of sources, etc. - Form their own questions during the information seeking process
- Use multiple resources, both print and non-print, effectively
