Super Power Word of the Month: Grit

By | February 25, 2020

Our Super Power Word of the Month for February is “grit.” We’re teaching our children that grit means: I work hard and when I struggle or fail, I persevere. Let me tell you, some of our kids are so hard on themselves. They are learning at different paces and comparing themselves to their peers, when they should be comparing themselves to…themselves! My own little first grader was upset that “all the other kids” knew how to tie their shoes, and she didn’t, #momfail. She had that moment where she believed that tying shoes was a natural-born skill. But what are we learning about right now? Grit! You get better at something by doing it repeatedly—often while failing, again and again. The people who have mastered a skill or overcome an obstacle have rarely done so on the first try, the second try, or even the tenth try. Keep working towards your goal, and you will reach it. She’s practicing tying her shoes every day and is getting better with each try.
