Experiences

Volunteer/Leadership

I have volunteered for the Watkins Glen Saturday morning basketball. Saturday morning basketball is for youth grades 3-4 and 5-6. The Junior Varsity and Varsity teams are able to coach the young players. This event happens every Saturday beginning in December and ending in February. The experience this has given me is responsibilities because being in charge of 6-10 people on a team means you are responsible for all of the kids on your team. It has also taught me to make new relationship with different people even though they are young. It lets us set an example for the younger people coming up because they look up to all of the coaches that are on the JV, and Varsity teams. This has helped me for the future because it has showed me what coaching is actually like because  Sports Management could be one of my interest after school.

Volunteer

I volunteered at Seneca Santa, which was on December 23rd 2018. Every year I help with getting presents ready for families who cannot afford gifts for their families. This year there was over 400 families we gathered presents for. There are stations that have different ages on them. The families are totally confidential. This is a great way to give back to the community because it is a great feeling to be able to help those in need especially during Christmas time. Many people from the community come out to help and it is truly an amazing experience that I get to be apart of every year.

Volunteer

I have volunteered at the Spaghetti dinner at the Moose Club for the past three years. This event occurs in October of every year. The Spaghetti dinner is very important to our community because hundreds of people come out for dinner that is cooked and ran by United Way volunteers.  One of the responsibilities I had was a runner which is someone who brings in the dirty dishes and then brings back the clean dishes and sets them out on the tables. I also washed dishes and help put them away, also prepared salads and even served cookies. It all vary’s to which station is needed for help. This has taught me to always give back to your community by helping out whenever you can. It has taught me kindness and people see that you help and it gives more respect to you as a human being.

Academic accomplishment

In seventh grade I was not a good student with grades. I was failing classes and got to the point where I couldn’t play sports. I ended up failing seventh grade and having to repeat the grade the following year. After this I tried extra hard and got good grades. Ever since then I have been on High Honor Roll. This is an accomplishment to me because it feels good to get good grades and to be a High Honor Roll student. This situation has taught me to never give up in any situation and to always try your best. This will help with my future because with good grades I am able to get into a good college and it will help further my education.
