Grade 4

I don’t know about you, but I think the Tower of  Books challenge is one of the greatest parts of fourth grade!  You get to read such a variety of genres and authors!   Make the most of this challenge.  Find books you love and enjoy the process.  It’s best not to leave it for the end of the year.  Start early and read often!  I’m here to help you!

That said, you will NOT find a pile of Tower books already sorted out in the library.  You may have noticed that on the windowsill the past few years.  Those books were mostly pulled to help the students find the books more quickly, especially on days when the librarian was not in the building.  But things are different this year.  There will be a librarian in the building every day.  And while I appreciate and support your teacher’s desire to help you grow as a reader, I have some goals for you, too.

My wish is for you to become an expert at locating the exact book you want in ANY library, no matter how big it is.  So instead of pulling the books and putting them in one spot, I’m going to leave them on the shelves where they belong and ask you to use your OPAC skills to find them.  Consider them buried treasure, matey!  (It’s hard to break my pirate-y habits!)  Always remember, there is help available to you if you NEED it.
