Experiences

Volunteer

I’ve volunteered in many different places around the country. These past couple of years I’ve traveled to Philadelphia and North Carolina where I met up with students my age across the country and volunteered our time to help the homeless, children, and addicts. I thoroughly enjoyed helping the children we met in Philadelphia. Here, we volunteered as camp counselors to kids who can’t enjoy their summer (for whatever means necessary).  We swam, played games, and sang songs together. I’ve always enjoyed spending time with children and hope to enter a future career regarding the subject. Over the summer I volunteered as a Swim Instructor teaching kids how to swim. By combining my love for swimming and children, I can easily say that I’ve volunteered for over three years in this program.

Leadership

The Youth Leadership Institute program was a program featuring Corning Community College where I spent a week with kids from around the district perfecting our leadership skills. It taught me valuable competence in the field of teamwork and decision making. Throughout the week, my group and I were given a school issued subject and were to present it to about twenty-five different adults in the district. I was chosen out of my grade to participate in this summer group project and highly recommend to anyone willing to learn about skills necessary for their future.

Quality Work

Below is a short extended response written by myself in my 10th grade honors English class which I received a 100 on. Having a love for writing and creativity, I thoroughly enjoyed this assignment. This response was to be added onto a short story we read about in class.

Reflection

This assignment taught me the endless paths  the story could take. While listening to each alternative endings for the short story by my classmates, I realized the importance of each individual’s unique mind/creativity. Anyone’s life story can be changed to end however they please.
