Spooky Stories in Music

During the month of October, our music classes will be exploring how music is used to tell stories.

UPK and Kindergarten will explore the stories of the Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Old Lady that Swallowed a Fly, and Max found two Sticks. We will be moving to the steady beat, counting songs, and learning how to play together in circle games and songs.

First grades will be exploring Toy Story 4 identifying elements of friendship through singing and instrument playing. We will also be exploring spooky stories and learning different circle games around the fall themes of spiders, pumpkins, and broomsticks. We will spend time learning how to create a sound story using percussion instruments.

Second Grades will be given choices of friendship exploration in stories or finding spooky themes in music.  They will be introduced to opera through the story of Hansel and Gretel as well as practicing composing with rhythmic patterns that can be turned into spooky sound stories.

Third and fourth grades will also explore opera through Hansel and Gretel as well other Halloween favorites like Danse Macabre, Night on Bald Mountain, and In the Hall of The Mountain King. Students will work in small groups practicing collaboration as they create rhythmic and melodic patterns that can be used to enhance storytelling.
