Work Experience:
Since the summer of 2014, after my freshman year of High School, I have had two jobs. I work at Jerlando’s Restaurant as a hostess, and I am a ref for little league soccer. I chose to put my work experiences on my portfolio because they have taught me work ethic and what responsibility is. Being responsible, working with others, and being motivated are some things that I have learned from my two jobs. These qualities will help me strive in my future career.
Leadership:
Being a leader is also something that I have had some experience with. I was the soccer team captain for the past two years, and the basketball team captain this year. I selected leadership to showcase because I believe that leadership is a very strong skill to have. Even if you are not the boss, you will always have to take charge in your situations and lead others. Being captain of the soccer team has taught me how to lead others through victory and defeat. Last year the team didn’t win many games and it was my job to make sure everyone kept there heads up. This year we had a very good team and it was my duty to ensure everyone kept working hard so we could keep winning games. Leadership through the good and bad is a skill that I have learned that will help we and my fellow workers in the future.
Clubs:
I’m in many clubs in my school. I enjoy taking part of all the clubs because I am able to voice my opinion within the school. Clubs was a good selection for me because I am a very opinionated person, and I like to be apart of bigger groups. This will help me in the future because I have learned how to organize events, listen to others, and give my own ideas within a group of people. Being part of a club is like being part of a sports team, you must work with others in order to achieve your goals. Listening and cooperating with others are what I have learned and what I can exercise in the future because of being part of clubs.
Volunteer:
I volunteer at many different events. I have volunteered at different spaghetti diners to raise money for different charities, I have also done kids night out and other events through National Honor Society, and Saturday Morning Basketball is another volunteer opportunity I take advantage of. Volunteering is something I take advantage of because giving and helping others is something I have always been passionate about. Every time I volunteer I learn what it’s like to be with others and lend a helping hand. This is something that i will carry with me throughout my life.
Spark! Regional Leadership Conference:
Three things I took away from the conference are that people skills are very important skills to have, conflict is in every aspect of life and we must deal with it, and lastly, receiving an education will get you far in life. The biggest impact from the conference to me was that you can be as smart and as experienced as possible, but if you don’t have good people skills you probably won’t go that far in your career. I can use all of this information I learned in my future job as a teacher. I will be successful in my career due to the knowledge I gained from this conference.
