Experiences

Service Learning

For my senior year, I had the opportunity to work with two classes of fourth graders in a computer class every other day. I help them log onto their computers and talk them through any technical difficulties they may have. This has been a great experience because it reassured my decision of working with kids as a career. Though everyday is not easy, I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know the students. One of my favorite things about service learning is the bonds that I have made with the students and the positive atmosphere of the classroom. I enjoy being someone the students can look up to and seek advice when needed, and it always brightens my day when they say hello to me outside of the classroom.

Spark! Regional Leadership Conference

In my iLead class, i had the opportunity to attend the 2018 Spark Conference. Some of the key takeaways I have from that experience are that it’s good to have an idea of what you want to do but your plans will change and that’s okay, I also learned that networking is one of the best ways to make connections in the workforce, and that in a business conflict will happen, and it’s important to solve that conflict in a positive way so you can avoid tension in the workplace. This conference impacted my view on my future by making me feel more comfortable with the idea of not knowing exactly what i want to do in my future. This will also help me in the future as I’m going to college because I will be less worried if I feel the need to change my major.

Summer Job

Every summer since the end of my freshman year, I have worked at Winner’s Circle Ice Cream. My first year working, I was much younger than all of my coworkers so I was very scared and intimidated. I persisted, despite the uneasy feelings I had, and ended up loving the the positive atmosphere of the place. I have learned so much about myself and different kinds of people from working there for the past three summers. I have learned that I love talking to new people and learning new things, and I’ve also learned that not everyone is going to be polite and appreciative and that’s okay. I have dealt with all different kinds of people while working, and it has greatly improved my communication skills. I also had to opportunity to help train a new employee last summer, which was a great experience as it put me in a leadership role. I believe this experience will help me in the future because I am now able to talk to adults without being intimidated, and I also am able to mediate situations of conflict in a efficient way. Working at Winner’s Circle also reassured my desire to work with children, as my boss had two grandchildren who were at the store nearly everyday. I would watch theme occasionally and really enjoyed it.

Quality Work

This is an example of my capstone essay. I chose to show this because the project taught me how to manage my time in an efficient way. I had to use databases to research my topic and put my information into a six to eight page essay. This was a great experience because it was one of the larger projects I had to do and I really had to focus on details, while also taking into consideration my time management.
