About/Contact Us

Hello!!

My name is Samantha Olson. I am one of the math specialists here at Cohen Elementary. I have a bachelors in Mathematics from SUNY Brockport and masters in Inclusive Elementary Education, from Nazareth College of Rochester. I am certified to teach both general education and special education in grades 1-6 and will be completing my certification to teach math k-12 very soon!

I live in Hornell (a long commute, I know)! Since I come from so far, I like to come early and leave shortly after three, but I will always make time for you or your student, should you need me in the afternoon. If you are an early riser, you can usually reach me in my room any time after 7am.

I live with my husband Alexander, my son Gideon and our dog Loki (pictures below). I love gardening, playing music, carpentry and traveling. My family and I often travel up and down the east coast, as well as around the great lakes. I try to use my experiences to better connect with the students. I always like to try new experiences, because each experiences gives me another way I may be able to reach a student.

I am always happy to help and can usually be pretty flexible, so please feel free to contact me with any thoughts or concerns. I know math is tough. The reason I got into it was because it was very hard for me as a child and finally my dad helped with my homework one day and something just clicked. Once I could see all the patterns and connections in math I loved it. I hope to help our student “click” into math and feel more confident in math and school.

I’m always here to help!

Your friendly neighborhood math support,

Samantha Olson
